  • Local Governments Response, Recovery and Reconstruction following the Earthquakes

    Country: Turkey
    Field of expertise: Improving Access to Basic Services
    Duration: Start April 4, 2023 till January 31, 2025
    The project supported local governments to lead recovery and reconstruction efforts after the earthquakes by strengthening municipal capacities and developing Local Recovery Plans. It also provided subsidies and practical support to help municipalities respond to immediate needs and build long term resilience.

  • Local Pilots Project

    Duration: Start April 1, 2018 till March 31, 2021
    This project supported Libyan municipalities to improve local governance by strengthening planning, service delivery, and transparency through practical pilot projects.

  • LOGOReP II: the Second Local Government Resilience Programme

    Country: Iraq
    Field of expertise: Developing Sustainable and Resilient Cities and Communities
    Duration: Start July 1, 2019 till June 30, 2023
    The wider objective of the project was to improve prospects for refugees and vulnerable host communities by improving resilience of local authorities and communities in Iraq.

  • Makandra – Capacity strengthening of Districts in Suriname

    Country: Suriname
    Duration: Start December 15, 2023 till June 30, 2026
    This project strengthened local government in Suriname by building district capacity, improving local services, transparency and citizen participation, and supporting good governance and the rule of law.

  • Mali, Inclusive Decisions At Local Level (IDEAL)

    Country: Mali
    Field of expertise: Involving Citizens in Decision Making
    Duration: Start January 1, 2017 till December 31, 2021
    The IDEAL programme in Mali supported five pilot communes in their integrated water resources management. It also supports the national association of municipalities in their lobby efforts to improve the institutional environment.

  • Mali, Sustainable Development through improved Local Governance

    Country: Mali
    Field of expertise: Security & Rule of Law
    Duration: Start January 1, 2022 till December 31, 2026
    SDLG Mali supports local authorities to prevent and manage conflict in a non-violent and inclusive way. For example, municipalities work together in intercommunal alliances to address conflicts over land and water, using participatory planning with citizens to rebuild trust and reduce tensions.

  • MASAR, Maintaining Strength and Resilience for Local Governments

    Country: Iraq
    Field of expertise: Dealing with Conflict, Fragility and Migration
    Duration: Start December 19, 2018 till December 19, 2021
    This project supported sub‑national governments in displacement‑affected areas to better plan, deliver services and promote local economic development for host communities, refugees and internally displaced people.

  • MASAR, Maintaining Strength and Resilience for Local Governments

    Country: Lebanon
    Field of expertise: Dealing with Conflict, Fragility and Migration
    Duration: Start December 19, 2018 till December 18, 2022
    This project supported sub‑national governments in displacement‑affected areas to better plan, deliver services and promote local economic development for host communities, refugees and internally displaced people.

  • Mouwatinat

    Country: Libyan Arab Jamahiriya
    Field of expertise: Involving Citizens in Decision Making
    Duration: Start August 1, 2022 till March 31, 2025
    The wider objective of the project was increased institutional capacity to foster participation of women in decision-making in Libya especially on municipal level.

  • Mozambique, DEALS, Governance of Inclusive Green Growth in Cities

    Country: Mozambique
    Field of expertise: Developing Sustainable and Resilient Cities and Communities
    Duration: Start September 1, 2017 till August 31, 2022
    In Mozambique, Beira, the programme contributed to improved land administration and improved own-source tax revenues for climate resilient urban development investments.

  • Mozambique, Sustainable Development through improved Local Governance

    Country: Mozambique
    Field of expertise: Developing Sustainable and Resilient Cities and Communities
    Duration: Start January 1, 2022 till December 31, 2026
    SDLG Mozambique builds on earlier work in land administration to help municipalities increase their own source revenue and improve how they serve their communities.

  • MUEVE: Sustainable mobility, Urban Planning, Equipment and Assessment of Public Space

    Country: Costa Rica
    Field of expertise: Developing Sustainable and Resilient Cities and Communities
    Duration: Start July 1, 2020 till June 30, 2025
    The project promoted integrated urban development by strengthening intermunicipal governance, inclusive mobility planning and sustainable infrastructure, contributing to a safer, more accessible and resilient urban region.

  • Municipal Accountability, Governance and Inclusive Communities in Chin State and Tanintharyi Region (MAGIC)

    Country: Myanmar
    Field of expertise: Building More Effective Public Administration
    Duration: Start March 1, 2018 till February 28, 2022
    This project improved municipal governance in Myanmar by helping local authorities plan better, deliver services, increase transparency, and strengthen accountability for citizens.

  • Municipal Property Tax System (MPTS-SL)

    Country: Sierra Leone
    Field of expertise: Involving Citizens in Decision Making
    Duration: Start November 1, 2023 till November 1, 2024
    This project developed a municipal property tax system to support effective property tax administration across local governments in Sierra Leone.

  • Myanmar, DEALS, Governance of Inclusive Green Growth in Cities

    Country: Myanmar
    Field of expertise: Developing Sustainable and Resilient Cities and Communities
    Duration: Start September 1, 2017 till August 31, 2022
    In Myanmar, Pathein, the programme contributed to multi-stakeholder cooperation, governmental and non-governmental initiatives at neighbourhood level to prevent flooding and organise waste management and recycling.

  • National Community Driven Development Project I

    Duration: Start December 22, 2015 till May 6, 2021
    This project supported and enabled poor rural communities to benefit from improved communication and access to local and government services, within the context of the National Community Driven Development Project.

  • Palestine, Inclusive Decisions At Local Level (IDEAL)

    Field of expertise: Involving Citizens in Decision Making
    Duration: Start January 1, 2017 till December 31, 2021
    The IDEAL programme supported Palestinian municipalities in developing a joint approach with their communities to create job opportunities and to promote prosperity.

    Duration: Start September 26, 2023 till December 31, 2026
    This programme supports Palestinian municipalities in using property data more effectively to improve services, increase own source revenue and accountability.

  • Philippines, DEALS, Governance of Inclusive Green Growth in Cities

    Country: Philippines

    Duration: Start September 1, 2017 till August 31, 2022
    During the Manila Bay Master Plan process in the Philippines, VNG International supported local governments in collaborating on waste and water management infrastructure. This led to a business case and feasibility study for a composting site to handle green household waste.
