Local governments have a pivotal role to play in mitigating and adapting to the challenges resulting from climate change and will be the first to experience the operational impact. Next to that, In many countries around the world, local governments have mandates in relation to water, sanitation, safety, and climate. VNG International supports local governments in strengthening their capacity around these topics related to water security and water safety for people and ecosystems.

Our approach is task-orientated and integrated, accompanying local government partners with our local government and governance expertise in related to their mandate, roles and responsibilities in specific societal climate and water related issues, complementary to other actors (water and environmental authorities, cadastre, engineering companies, financing institutions, knowledge institutions, NGOs and CBOs).
VNG International tries to make a difference through supporting good governance and we do so by working on three intervention areas: Improved decision-marking, processes, policies & services; Improved leadership and citizenship; improved mandate.
