Overall objective of the project is to support efforts to stabilize and reduce violence in the South Kivu province by strengthening mechanisms for customary conflict resolution and local security governance.Â
Objective
The project supports the establishment and effective operationalization of customary conflict resolution coordination committees (CCRCC) at local and provincial levels, whilst strengthening their capacity. In addition, it aims to enhance the sustainability of local security governance mechanisms, in accordance with Decree No. 22/44 of December 6, 2022, concerning the organisation and functioning of provincial and local security committees.Â
Approach
The CCRCCs in South Kivu are established, operational, and strengthened in their capacity. Customary conflicts are being resolved through the intervention of the CCRCCs. Political and administrative authorities support the resolution of customary conflicts, and public authorities are taking actions/measures to enhance the sustainability and viability of official local security governance mechanisms.Â
Results
The CCRCC for the Itombwe sector in Mwenga Centre has been successfully established through workshops. General assembly workshops have been held in five selected territories (Fizi, Uvira, Mwenga, Kalehe, and Idjwi) in South Kivu Province. Additionally, an election workshop was conducted to establish the provincial CCRCC. A mobile training cycle was organised with the support of the provincial division of customary affairs, delivering five two-day training sessions for 40 participants from the territories of Fizi, Uvira, Mwenga, Kalehe, and Idjwi.Â
