MAASTRICHT ACT4GLOBALGOALS DAY!

The municipality of Maastricht organised a very successful Act4GlobalGoals day on 25-9-2019, in collaboration with various partners in the city, including Mondiaal Maastricht, the CNME and the business community.
More than 25 workshops took place in and around the Town Hall on the Market, spread throughout the day. There were speakers from America (The well-known John Liu) and Sweden, and there were workshops with a focus on local entrepreneurs. Large corporations such as DSM/Sabic (Jens Thies) were also represented. No fewer than 250 unique visitors found their way to the Town Hall in Maastricht, and enjoyed one or more inspiring speakers. A market took place outside the Town Hall, with stands from, among others, Maastricht University and Maastricht Climate Action Network. The LBSNN was also represented here. Among other things, durable toothbrushes were distributed.
In the evening, a Studium Generale lecture was held, and a movie night was organised on 24-9, prior to Global Goals Day. All this of course with the SDGs as the theme. A very extensive programme, which was completely sold out. A great success for all partners, and a prelude to more!
At the same time, 750 primary school students were taught about the SDGs, coordinated by the CNME. The first steps were also taken to give the SDGs a permanent place in the curriculum, unique in the Netherlands.

This Act4GlobalGoals day was a starting point for the municipality of Maastricht, as well as for the other partners. A lot of inspiration was gained, and ideas collected, on this day.
In the meantime, talks are being held with school umbrella organisation Mosae Lira to give the SDGs a permanent place in the curriculum of primary schools in Maastricht, also unique in the Netherlands. Additionally, various working groups have been formed and countless new volunteers have registered.
