DONGEN – GLOBAL GOALS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION AGENDA

During its meeting on 6 June 2019, the city council of Dongen discussed at length the 17 sustainable development goals, also known as the Global Goals, set by all countries of the United Nations (UN). The council has instructed the board to embrace the Global Goals as a guideline in developing policy. The focus should be on:

  • goal 1 (no poverty)
  • goal 11 (a habitable village)
  • goal 13 (combating climate change)

The council has also taken note of the board's proposal to register the municipality of Dongen as a Global Goals municipality. Subsequently, the international pictograms of the Global Goals were used for the first time in the Framework Memorandum 2020 ('Kadernota 2020') to indicate the relationship between the various programmes on the one hand and their associated sustainable goals on the other. There has been extensive communication about the frameworks and the implementation, also by means of a brochure. The same line has now also been continued in the budget for 2020 and subsequent years. This marks a successful start!

Various initiatives have been implemented regarding the Global Goals. For example, catering establishments, shops and supermarkets have been approached to make their toilets available upon request. The town hall has been opened to passers-by and registered for the 'Hoge Nood' app. In addition, a customer journey was completed to prevent waste at events during which residents and organisers were interviewed.
