DEVENTER4GLOBALGOALS

In 2018, the Deventer4GlobalGoals core group was set up with representatives from education, business, NGO, culture and government sectors. The core group has drawn up an action plan for the implementation of the Global Goals in Deventer. It concerns a process in which the municipality wants to assess (what is already being done and by whom), inspire (highlight good examples) and activate (stimulate organisations and companies to contribute). One of the first activities in this process was the organisation of a Captains of Industry Dinner on the 16th of May this year for some 40 important representatives from various sectors of the Deventer business community. The opportunities offered by the Global Goals were the focus of the dinner, as was the question: how can we capitalise on these opportunities and at the same time contribute to a better (living) climate and society? It was an inspiring evening!

During the dinner, a lot of interest was shown by different companies. A brainstorming session was organised with them at the beginning of July. There it was agreed to organise 2 to 3 thematic meetings linked to the Global Goals every year. On the 10th of October (Sustainability Day), the first meeting around the theme "Food Waste" took place, in collaboration with KonnecteD and Rabobank Salland. As during the dinner, there was a lot of interest from the companies. An additional activity was to support the organisation of the SDG Game on the 11th of December at Ulebelt in Deventer. For the year 2020, it was decided that a Global Goal prize will be awarded for the first time during the Deventer Entrepreneurs Event (DOE). In addition, 3 meetings will be organised this year in collaboration with companies and industry associations from Deventer around the following themes: mobility, energy transition and ICT.

"The Global Goals offer a variety of opportunities that we would like to capitalise on. Opportunities for companies, knowledge institutions, the creative sector and NGOs, and thus for a sustainable Deventer. By innovating, by being distinctive, we can inspire others here in our city, but also beyond our municipal borders. And we are proud of that! Proud of a city and a municipality with an international appearance where a lot can be achieved."
- Thomas Walder, Councillor for Economy and International Policy

Global GoalsDeventer has traditionally been characterised by an open attitude towards the world around it. In that spirit, Deventer has committed itself to the Global Goals! The Global Goals offer a variety of opportunities for innovation of existing activities and for new business. They can help to further profile, develop and grow Deventer nationally and internationally.
In the first instance, we will focus on all Global Goals: only during the implementation of our plan of approach will it become clear, on the basis of the assessment, which Global Goals are particularly relevant in Deventer. That is what the follow-up actions will be aimed at. These can become the "Deventer Global Goals"; those areas in which Deventer distinguishes itself and in which Deventer can profile and position itself - nationally and internationally - in addition to the various existing possibilities.
Via the website www.deventer4globalgoals.nl and various social media platforms, we have created a community where those involved (leaders, employees, volunteers, supporters) of all kinds of companies and organisations can find each other, exchange knowledge and gain inspiration. These communities will form the umbrella underneath which all activities related to the Global Goals in Deventer can be brought together. In addition, and because our plan mainly focuses on business-to-business, we will choose the appropriate media. We have already published a series of articles on the Global Goals activities in the MKB (Small and medium-sized enterprises) Magazine. This magazine is periodically (bi-monthly) distributed among the 1250 members of MKB Deventer (which is the largest SME association in our country).
