  • Summary

The wider objective of the project is to contribute to conflict-sensitive reform of the public administration of the new nation of South Sudan. This project is an activity in the framework of the working group on local governance of the network for peace, security and development. www.psdnetwork.nl

    The specific objectives are to:

    - Discuss assumptions about decentralisation in fragile states and conflict areas, especially whether it reduces conflict, through inclusion, or whether it intensifies separatist tendencies

    - To get insights into the way decentralisation in Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo worked out

    - To deliver a synthesis of these insights to the Local Government Board of South Sudan (LGB) and selected local government actors there

The expected results of the project are:

    - Officials of the LGB and selected Southern Sudanese local governments informed about practices and outcomes elsewhere

    - Contribution to grafile state policy in the Netherlands
