Highlights 2009

Dear Reader,
VNG International has been investing strongly in city-to-city cooperation ever since we were established. In 2009 we received acclaim for what we have achieved in this area in many different ways. Our LOGO South programme was evaluated very positively and was noted as an example for other development programmes. The Dutch minister for development cooperation increased the programme’s budget by € 4.6 million. The European Commission selected VNG International to support the grant beneficiaries of CIUDAD, the EU’s prestigious city-to-city cooperation programme. Especially telling, as it comes from the beneficiaries, United Cities and Local Governments of Africa gave us a prize as the western organisation that contributed most to strengthening local government in Africa in the last years.
